Paul Weaver

Paul Weaver is a product innovation specialist and an industry pioneer who has spent the last decade creating some of the most recognizable products in the beverage and regulated cannabis spaces. Currently serving as the Director and Head of Cannabis for the Boston Beer Company (makers of Samuel Adams, Truly Hard Seltzer, and Twisted Tea), Paul is responsible for steering a trusted, legacy American institution into the future of adult consumption.

Paul’s career is defined by his willingness to step into the unknown. After spending a decade in the finance and banking sector and surviving the 2008 financial crisis, he realized his true passion was in creating tangible products. In 2010, he made a bold pivot, moving from Arizona to Toronto to enter the consumer packaged goods industry. He cut his teeth at Molson Coors, mastering the complex art of stakeholder management and supply chain logistics to launch highly anticipated products into the Canadian market.

In 2017, just as Canada was on the precipice of federal legalization, Paul left the safety of the beer industry to join Canopy Growth Corporation as Head of Innovation. Operating without a playbook, his team built manufacturing infrastructure from scratch by inventing pre-rolled joint machines, building a cannabis chocolate factory, and pioneering the highly complex cannabis beverage category. Today, at Boston Beer Company, Paul continues to fuse his deep expertise in beverage alcohol with cutting-edge cannabis innovation, most notably launching "Teapot," Canada’s #1 cannabis-infused iced tea. Known for a leadership style anchored in two simple rules "be smart and be kind", Paul is dedicated to destigmatizing the cannabis plant through safe, highly regulated, and meticulously crafted products.

DEFINING MOMENTS

2008

The Wake Up Call

Surviving the 2008 financial crisis made Paul realize he disliked the ethereal nature of banking. Craving a career building physical products, he boldly relocated from Arizona to Toronto and broke into the beverage industry at Molson Coors. The Lesson: Never be afraid to walk away from a safe career path if it doesn't align with your passion to build something real.

2010

The Grind

By aligning executive and supply chain teams, Paul championed a new international shipping route to successfully launch Coors Banquet in Canada after 15 years of corporate misfires. The Lesson: A great product idea means absolutely nothing without masterful stakeholder management to actually bring it to life.

2017

The Wild West

Leaving big beer to join Canopy Growth Corporation on the eve of legalization, Paul's team embraced total ambiguity. Operating without a playbook, they invented custom joint-rolling machinery, built a chocolate factory, and pioneered early cannabis beverages. The Lesson: True industry disruption requires you to be completely comfortable operating in the unknown.

2022

The Hit

Recognizing shifting consumption habits, Paul partnered with Boston Beer Company to build their cannabis division. Fusing their 40-year legacy with his expertise, his team launched "Teapot," which quickly became Canada’s number one cannabis-infused iced tea. The Lesson: The most successful legacy brands secure their future by actively embracing the next evolution of their category.
