Paul Weaver has never been the guy who follows the map. Raised in Mesa, Arizona by parents who let him wear bicycle shorts and a sport coat to dress-up day, he learned early that the most interesting path is rarely the most obvious one. Not particularly athletic, he found his identity behind a drum kit at age ten, and that instinct, to find your own rhythm and commit to it, became the operating system for everything that followed.

He spent a decade in banking and finance, survived the 2008 financial crisis, and walked away with one defining conclusion: he wanted to make something real. So in 2010 he moved to Toronto, applied to 150 jobs, and knocked on every door he could find until one opened. That door led to Molson Coors, then to Canopy Growth, then to the Boston Beer Company, and at each stop he did the same thing: walked into chaos, built the structure, and launched something that lasted.

Now as Director and Head of Cannabis at the Boston Beer Company, the hitmakers behind Sam Adams, Twisted Tea, Angry Orchard, and Truly Hard Seltzer, Paul has added another hit to that list. Teapot, the cannabis-infused iced tea he launched in 2022, is now the number one cannabis tea in Canada. His reputation isn't built on one win. It's built on the ability to do this over and over, across categories, across companies, across decades

DEFINING MOMENTS

2008

The Wake Up Call

Bank of America and Mutual Fund Industry. Surviving the financial crisis and deciding to walk away from finance entirely. The Lesson: "I worked in something intangible for ten years. The crisis taught me I wanted to make something real. Sometimes it takes a collapse to show you what you actually want to build."

2010

The Grind

Toronto. Applying to 150 jobs to break into the beverage industry. The Lesson: "I just hit the ground and knocked on every door I could. That feeling when the offer finally came through, you can't manufacture that. You just have to be willing to stay in it long enough."

2017

The Wild West

Canopy Growth Corporation. Joining the world's largest cannabis company as Head of Innovation before legalization, before the rules existed. The Lesson: "No one was doing product development in cannabis. It was a free for all. We had to invent the equipment to roll a joint at scale because nothing existed. That's either terrifying or exciting. I chose exciting."

2022

The Hit

Boston Beer Company, Teapot Launch. Building the cannabis division and launching the number one cannabis tea in Canada. The Lesson: "The secret to getting a product to shelf is stakeholder management. A great idea means nothing if you can't sell it internally. Get the room on your side and the rest takes care of itself."
